The design team took inspiration from Chengdu’s city flower, Hibiscus, to develop this overall shape. The overall shape of Chengdu Tianfu Art Museum represents the high mountains that surround Chengdu. In both art museums, the design team aimed to combine different design languages and materials to communicate the urban feel and humanistic character of Chengdu.

The Chengdu Tianfu Museum of Art exhibits galleries that are largely made up of bamboo paneling and have a soft look, while the Chengdu Museum of Contemporary Art has a geometric design in bright gray tones.
According to CDS Design, “Contemporary art space design is different from commercial space design in that it is not just decorative design in the traditional sense, but design that can reflect the temperament of the architectural space and satisfy the function and transmission of the spirit of the space.”

Instead of a simple shape, the team emphasizes that the petal shape signifies the tolerance and humanistic attitude of Chengdu people’s art and life. Bamboo veneer was chosen by the design team to express the regional and modern essence of Sichuan.

“As for the lighting of the whole space, due to the curved shape of the tray, the design team maintains the concept of light transmission from the bamboo shed and uses the intelligent system to control the area. lighting and lighting intensity depending on the distribution of sunlight and indoor light, said the design team.

The same bamboo veneer was also used in the staircase and floor railings to contribute to the architectural and sculptural feel of the space, which is in keeping with the artistic temperament of the art museum. In the facilities exhibition hall, there is a circular rest area where visitors can relax while admiring the surroundings.

At both art museums, the design team will use distinct design languages and materials to communicate the urban feel and humanistic character of Chengdu. Bamboo veneer is used in the art museum to showcase the regional and modern essence of Sichuan. The design of the Museum of Contemporary Art is more streamlined and basic, with spatial rhythm and implicit forces. He is, however, cosmopolitan and passionate.
