The Imperial War Museums (IWM) is a world authority on conflict and its impact on people’s lives. We collect objects and stories that provide insight into people’s experiences of war, preserve them for future generations, and present them to audiences today in the most powerful way possible. Our family of five museums uncovers the causes, course and consequences of war, from the First World War to current conflicts.
Our sector has been one of the hardest hit by the global Covid-19 pandemic. As we think about our future, we will build on the lessons learned from this experience which brought rapid change and innovation to the way we work. We have redesigned our operational model in order to be able to deliver our recovery and our vision for 2030, aiming for more flexibility and responsiveness.
We are now looking to appoint a new Executive Director of Commerce and Operations to play a pivotal role in achieving our strategic and corporate objectives. A key member of IWM’s strategic leadership team, working with and for the CEO, the Executive Director has oversight and accountability for operations; facilities, security, volunteers and operational risk; and in trade; admissions/retail, trade events, experiences, catering, membership, media sales and licensing, e-commerce and visitor experience. They will lead a large staff leadership that is critical to helping us achieve our aspirations.
The next Executive Director will demonstrate exceptional leadership experience and the ability to navigate a complex, large, multi-site organization. They must demonstrate strong business acumen and have proven experience overseeing estates, operations, security and facility management. He must be an effective decision-maker, a true team player with excellent communication skills and the ability to motivate a large and diverse group of staff.
