The Center is setting up 18 more science museums across the country as part of efforts to instill scientific temperament in students, Union Culture Minister G Kishan Reddy said on Tuesday.

Opening the ‘Vigyan Sarvatra Pujyate’ celebrations with Science and Technology Minister Jitendra Singh, Mr Reddy said the new museums would prove to be a milestone in the development of the S&T sector in the country over the 25 coming years.

Singh, who is also a Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), said the week-long “Vigyan Sarvatra Pujyate” mega event is being held in 75 different cities to mark National Science Week (from 22 to February 28) and popularize science among the people.

The event is part of the “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” celebrations to pay tribute and showcase the achievements of India’s 75 glorious years of independence.

Singh said the government strongly believes that science and its innovations can solve most of our problems in all sectors such as rural and urban areas, health, infrastructure and defence.

As part of the week-long event, a science and technology mega exhibition and the National Science Book Fair will be held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in the nation’s capital.
