The Canadian Museum of History and the Canadian War Museum will launch limited reopens on Thursday and tout outdoor activities for all ages, new safety measures and free general admission throughout the summer.

While most interior spaces remain closed, visitors to both museums – who are encouraged to book tickets online in advance – can take guided tours of the Great Hall of the History Museum and the LeBreton Gallery. at the war museum.

The opening hours of both museums are Thursday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with a wider reopening scheduled for September.

Dance performances and Indigenous Experiences activities are offered at the History Museum and live military vehicle demonstrations at the War Museum. There are also self-guided outdoor activities and architectural tours at both museums.

Security measures include a timed online ticket office, mandatory indoor masks, physical distancing and intensified cleaning, the museums said.

A maximum of 50 visitors will be allowed inside each museum for two hour blocks. People who haven’t booked in advance can still access outdoor activities and register for a tour, dance performance, or vehicle demonstration, space permitting.

Both museums continue to offer virtual activities and other online programs on their Museum at Home web pages.
